In-Character Information

Name: Sonic the Hedgehog
Game/Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Teacher/Student/Other: Student
Canon Point: Post Sonic Generations
Age: 16
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: Freshman
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm

Personality:

From a huge heart to a huge ego, from confident to just plain smug; Sonic can be described in many, many ways. One way, however, is notslow, and I’d recommend never calling him that, or you might really annoy the Hell out of him.

Sonic’s attitude defines the “free spirit” mentality; he goes his own way and follows his own rules. Despite all the decisions he could make in the world with all that hubris he’s juggling, he chooses to be a hero. His love for freedom becomes a resolve to uphold it as well, and Sonic will use all his available abilities to ensure that those who are in trouble, being oppressed, or simply just need a helping hand when others are keeping them down can be saved, regardless of resistance he may face in the process.

To the tune of this, Sonic can be shown to be incredibly stubborn. He hates to admit he can’t do something or that he may need help in doing it, but when it becomes critical, he casts those feelings aside and welcomes the assistance, albeit in silent agreement. Funnily enough, Sonic can be a hypocrite in this regard, in that he preaches people should ask for/accept help from their friends, even though he can be too hard-headed to do so himself.

Much of this ties into Sonic’s confidence. While this is generally a wonderful trait that allows Sonic to tackle danger without fear, it can make him overzealous as well, and he can put himself in over his head before he realizes what is happening. Often times Sonic will continue to fight even though his body no longer can, and has been known to conceal when he is actually afraid, in pain, or wiped out, only succumbing to those feelings when his body forces him to and he passes out from it. Modesty isn’t one of this blue blur’s stronger traits when he talks about himself, but he can be shown to have some form of it when compliments stream in from others.

When it comes to challenges, Sonic puts a different spin on them; he sees them more as an opportunity to have some fun and this much is apparent. His adventures are riddled with light-hearted commentary and jokes, teases and taunts flying at his adversaries as he goes. He will often take what could have been hostility and turn it into an admiration of his enemy’s power, seeing as it gives him the chance to enjoy a good challenge. He is capable of being focused and serious when the situation proves to be dire or just flat-out offensive to Sonic’s beliefs, but he maintains a positive attitude, optimism unwavering in the face of a bad scenario.

Sonic isn’t one to avoid negativity, though. The fastest way to a hedgehog in a bad mood involves taking any kind of jab at his speed, as it is a predominant source for his pride. Injustice, especially on a grand scale, gets the heroic gears in motion, and one of the most absolute sources for Sonic’s anger being the concept of evil itself, particularly in action. No matter the form it comes in, he will be the first to run in and stop it out of sheer loathing. Seeing anyone crying can also bug him (though this would remain unexpressed), but simply because he has the firm belief of moving on or fighting what brings you down enough to get to that point. He can be quick to have a temper and, as previously stated, he can and will be serious in an instant, if not angry, when the threat becomes greater than the joke he could make is worth. (This is heavily evident when one of his friends’ lives is put into danger.) Even Sonic can figure out when the time is right to laugh, as he is actually a very insightful being. Often times Sonic will find an understanding in someone’s actions where others may not, seeing the full picture and making each moment afterwards matter. This allows him to forgive easily and bear little to no ill will towards anyone, no matter what they have done to him in the past.

Sonic tends to move forward in life, keeping the past to heart but never stopping to dwell over it. Lives lost and friendships made and gone have received his respect and momentary feelings, but moping is one thing you may never find him doing for very long. The time to lament is time that could be spent finding his next adventure. If all ends well, Sonic is a hedgehog that breathes without regret and a smile toward the future.

When he isn’t saving animals from machines; friends from being kidnapped; his or other worlds from a man scientist bent on conquering them; or time and space from collapsing and ruining birthday parties, Sonic can be seen as a vagrant just looking for a good place to chill and relax. He’s expressed a love for nature/natural beauty throughout his time travelling the world or beyond, taking immediate action whenever he sees it being threatened. Sonic will run off on his own for extended periods of time to enjoy the tranquility of solitude, but with a loyalty unmatched, he will always return to his friends.

In the short of it all, Sonic has a huge heart that welcomes anyone in, never one to turn down friendship or a blind eye to evil, doing what it takes to make everyone’s lives and the world in general the best they can be. Known for his speed and heroism, Sonic is much more than that, and anyone who meets him will come to understand it.

Backstory:
Sonic has a very extensive history, and with all that’s already been on his plate, landing in Smash Academy will come as no major shock to him. He’s defeated Time Eater, the final antagonist of Sonic Generations, and as time is putting itself back together, Sonic will find himself in a completely new place, having fallen through the wrong space on his way back to his own birthday party. So much for getting a chance at that chilidog Tails gave him.

Anything Else?:
  • Sonic is labelled as being 15 or 16, depending on the source, but I'm going with 16 because of Generations being his birthday party anyway.
  • While the canon I'm following is gameverse, I'm spiriting in some aspects of Sonic's personality from Sonic X. He's a tad more extra insightful in X and I really love that aspect of him, so I wanted to play on it a bit more, too. Otherwise, he's your general run-of-the-mouth hedgiebutt.

In-Character 1st person sample:

A feed flickers on. The screen, at first, has only the oval peach fuzz of a stomach on it, skirted by waves of blue. Within a moment, Sonic the Hedgehog sits back and looks directly into the camera embedded within the laptop’s screen. He seems to be relaxing against a tree, though he keeps getting back into the camera again to do something, making the area unclear, but the brown bark behind him and a few flittering leaves at least confirm he is outside. He officially takes a seat back, arms tucked behind his head and a grin on his face. ]

Y’know… I’m going to enjoy sticking around for a little while and seeing what this place has to offer, but…

His eyebrows lower, cheeks swelling with an exhale he can’t quite release. When the words continue, it pops right out. ]

Someone said school work and I needed a nap right then and there! Telling you now: nothing in this world is getting me into a desk. Noooot happening.

He closes his eyes as a breeze takes hold of him. A smile crosses his face in the same natural breath, and he sighs contentedly, as if that last statement had settled that situation once and for all. ]

I’ve gotta give those Hands a hand, though: They’ve really mastered making you feel a little crazy.

Oh, god, he looks incredibly proud of himself for that one. No, Sonic. No. ]

I’ve never seen hands just floating around like that, though, not unless the Eggster was pushing their buttons, but I guess I’ve seen crazier. Do you have any idea what it’s like to talk to a sword? Do ya? Or to talk to yourself? Like, seriously, yourself - as a separate hedgehog! [ He pauses. ] It’s really cool.

[ Sonic’s voice drifts off, his eyes wandering elsewhere. Within a few seconds a chuckle bubbles right out of him. ]

This place… It does look really fun. [ Sonic points at the camera. ] But, seriously, I’m not going to class unless someone drags me, and – [ He snorts, an air of arrogance practically fogging up the camera. ] I’d like to see someone try and catch me.

[[There is also this log here that Essay and I did for practice!]]

Well, this feeling wasn’t unfamiliar!

At first, gravity had no say in the matter of Sonic’s body, the lithe, azure form of the fastest thing alive floating aimlessly in pools of hot light. The weightlessness of his descent through the crippling white space and the regressive time flow always made his brain as light as air, insides floating towards the surface of his belly. Time travel never felt very good, and for all the times he’s done it, you would think he’d be used to it by now!

Nope.

He couldn’t conjure up a voice quite yet, so he took to observing his surroundings in hopes they weren’t as empty as they appeared. His past self was gone. Tails was, too. Amy, Silver, Shadow, Blaze… He didn’t see anyone. Not even Eggman. Their voices cheering him on during the final battle with Time Eater seem to linger in the hollow of his ears, but it was simply echoes of the past.

Sonic’s emerald eyes swayed upward, his vision hazy… he thought. Everything was just so bright.

And it exponentially became brighter, and brighter, and –

“Woah!”

The last sound Sonic could manage before the weight of the universe made a comeback. His spines grew heavy, their weight increasing to replicate metal fixtures welded into his skull. Like any fall, his innards dropped like boulders into his backside, the rest of his blood rushing forward, and down he went.
He instinctively went to reach up, swinging to grab at nothing to hold onto. The velocity from the fall was rising; the heat was getting worse; his skin sizzled as if falling through the atmosphere; and the world suddenly grew

Black.

Then there was light!

“…..ooooOOOAAAH!” Oh man, oh man, oh MAN, OH MAN! He was still falling fast! He could see an orb of hospitality down below, the term ‘tunnel vision’ squeezing every last literal sense out of itself and onto Sonic’s life. Was that a bed? A nightstand? The shoot he was racing through was beginning to wobble and curve, spiraling his body out of control. Sonic flailed his arms, spun his wheels, but to no avail. He was still flipping around as if caught in time’s tornado.

“Aw, man, this is gonna - !”

Face, meet WALL. “GAH!” Body, meet BED. “OOF!”

The mattress that caught him shrieked out in loud squeaks, pathetically sweeping upward to try and throw its invader off and onto the floor. Sonic hung on until it eased, face down into some poor sap’s pillow and filthy shoes tangled all up in the blankets.

“Well…” Sonic mumbled, slapping each white-gloved palm against the bed. He gradually pushed himself up, eyes fixed on the beaten pillow beneath him. “That was almost the most comfortable landing I’ve ever had.”

He looked left. Just looked like a room with a couple beds. Clean, seemingly unused. Nothing special.

Right. The wall he just made out with. He redirected his eyes away from that embarrassing memory; he was exceptionally glad no one saw it.

“What…”

Sonic’s ears flicked up. Well, almost no one.

He threw himself back onto his rear, getting his orientation straight before addressing the voice that just rung out over his head. With lips curled at their tips, mouth parted to speak, and eyes offering an apologetic but friendly glance, Sonic turned his attention to the owner of that ‘What’.

“Uhh, Hi – “

What he did not expect, however, was to find a certain friend of his gaping back at him with eyes of garnet as wide as Sonic’s emeralds.

“…Shadow?” Sonic deferred to the furthest thought away from his original line of speech. He had not seen this coming, and from the bitter look on Shadow’s face, neither had he.
